One Fowl Day


Hercules (Kevin Sorbo), back in human -- or rather demigod -- form, is escorting Katherine, a pig he met during his "Porkules" adventure, home to her farm. Unbeknownst to him, Ares (Kevin Smith) is plotting revenge against Iolaus (Michael Hurst) for turning Discord into a chicken using Artemis' bow. Though Ares is enjoying Discord's humiliation and ruffled feathers, the god of war is not above punishing Iolaus and Autolycus (Bruce Campbell) for daring to interfere in the affairs of immortals. He and his fowl sidekick find Iolaus and Autolycus already bickering, but they truly learn to hate one another when Ares shackles them together using gold chains forged by Hephaestus with no lock for the King of Thieves to pick. And just to make things interesting, Ares also takes away their clothing.
Covering themselves with leaves and vines, the pair set off to find Hercules, who has discovered that he can still understand pig-language. Katherine, who has become quite taken with Hercules, both as a pig and as a man, tells Hercules of her fervent wish to become a human. Hercules encourages Katherine to be happy with who she is, but when Aphrodite (Alexandra Tydings) arrives to pick up Artemis' bow, she realizes that the pig's heart is breaking even if Hercules is blind to it. Drawing back the bow, she shoots Katherine and turns her into a woman (Alexandra Tydings) in her own image -- looking almost as good, but not quite.
Meanwhile, Iolaus and Autolycus, who now sport stolen potato sacks, are bumbling and fighting their way to Katherine's farm when they tumble down a steep hill and land in a stagnant pool of mud. Filthy, scratched and covered with rotting twigs and leaves, they approach a young girl (Hannah Collins) to ask for directions and she runs away screaming. It's not until they are attacked by an angry mob with pitchforks who mistake them for a monster that they recognize another one of Ares' tricks: no one can understand anything they're saying. Their words come out only as scary, monster-like noises. They manage to escape the frightened villagers, but further flight is impeded by Autolycus having eaten sleep-inducing goosenberries and passing out. Iolaus tries to lug his companion's dead weight across a log over a deep chasm, but Ares has more fun in store. He gives the pair unwieldy giant feet, with huge ears and vivid tufts of orange hair to match. Just when Iolaus and Autolycus finally get their balance, Ares takes away the log, sending them plunging into the river.
Katherine is enjoying life as a human and can't wait to try new things, although she gets some strange looks when she strips off all her clothes to roll in the mud and slurps her food straight from the bowl. But when she runs into Sadie, a horse she used to know, and a group of her pig cousins can no longer recognize her, Katherine begins to think about her old life. Hercules reminds her of how much she loves her family and how she will have to leave them if she remains human.
Again covered with muck, Iolaus and Autolycus have been caught by the mob, who mistake them for the Big-footed Two-headed Forest People of legend. They are saved from certain death by Barnabus (Michael Saccente), who buys them to display in his Greatest Show In Greece. Fortunately, Hercules attends the circus and recognizes his two friends. He breaks Hephaestus' chains and Iolaus and Autolycus, now restored to normal, gladly go their separate ways. But as Autolycus is leaving town, he is attacked. Stunned and shaken, he goes to warn Iolaus of the new danger: Discord is now a giant chicken. With Discord on the rampage, Iolaus devises a plan and manages to get her to swallow a huge dose of goosenberries. Discord's gigantic body begins to topple toward Autolycus, but at the last moment, she turns back into a regular-sized bird and lies quietly, snoozing. Ares appears laughing to collect his chicken, proclaiming that he hasn't had this much fun in a long time, and Iolaus and Autolycus part as friends. Hercules returns Katherine to her farm and they share a tender goodbye before Aphrodite turns her back into a pig. Happy and relieved, Hercules departs knowing that Katherine is thrilled to be back with her family.

Trivia: As mentioned on Bruce Campbell's official website back in 1998, the original plot for this episode had Hercules teaming up with an aspiring actor (portrayed by Campbell) called Thespius. Thespius travels with Hercules during the episode because he needs tips on heroism for his latest performance. Later on, as stated in a Whoosh! interview, Paul Robert Coyle mentioned that Jerry Patrick Brown and him rewrote One Fowl Day after Kevin Sorbo's injury forced the writing team to lighten his part. It's unknown if they changed it to be a direct conclusion of Porkules, or if it already had been and they just did rewrites.

Hércules, de volta à forma humana – ou, se preferirem, de semideus – acompanhava Katherine, uma porquinha que ele conheceu durante sua aventura como “Porkules”, de volta à fazenda que era o lar dela.
Sem que ele tivesse conhecimento, Ares planejava uma vingança contra Iolaus por ter transformado Discórdia numa galinha com o arco de Ártemis. Embora se divertisse com a humilhação e o ruflar de penas de Discórdia, o deus da Guerra não desistira de punir Iolaus e Autolycus por ousarem interferir nos assuntos dos imortais.
Assim, ele e sua acompanhante emplumada encontraram Iolaus e Autolycus já envolvidos numa briga, mas eles verdadeiramente aprenderam a detestar começar outra quando Ares os acorrentou juntos usando correntes de ouro forjadas p´-or Hephaestus, cujo fecho nem mesmo o Rei dos Ladrões poderia abrir. E só para fazer as coisas mais interessantes, Ares também despojou-os de suas roupas.
Cobrindo-se com folhas de videiras, a dupla partiu à procura de Hércules, que descobrira ainda ser capaz de compreender a linguagem dos porcos. Katherine, que havia se afeiçoado a Hércules, mesmo sendo ambos um homem e uma porquinha, disse ao filho de Zeus que tinha um grande desejo de tornar-se humana. Hércules procurava encorajar Katherine a ser feliz tal como era, mas quando Afrodite chegou para apanhar o arco de Ártemis, percebeu que o coraçãozinho da porca estava partido, ainda que Hércules fosse cego a isso. Pegando novamente o arco, ela alvejou Katherine e a transformou em uma mulher à sua própria imagem – bem, quase tão boa quanto.
Enquanto isso, Iolaus e Autolycus, que agora vestiam sacos de batatas roubados, iam aos tropeções pelo caminho, rumo à fazenda de Katherine, quando rolaram colina abaixo e aterrissaram em cheio numa poça de lama estagnada e malcheirosa. Atordoados, arranhados e cobertos de folas e ramos apodrecidos, eles se aproximaram de uma jovem camponesa para pedir informações, mas ela, assustada, saiu correndo aos gritos. Não demorou muito, e os dois foram atacados por uma turba furiosa com ancinhos e enxadas, que os tomou por um monstro que reconheciam como mais um dos truques de Ares. Ninguém entendia o que os dois diziam ... suas palavras saíam engroladas e borbulhantes em meio aos narizes grotescos.
Eles correram, e conseguiram escapar dos camponeses enfurecidos, mas sua fuga acabou sendo atrapalhada porque Autolycus tinha comido algumas frutinhas silvestres de efeito sonífero, e acabou desmaiando.
Iolaus bem que tentou arrastar o peso morto do colega adormecido, mas Ares tinha mais diversão em mente. Ele deu aos dois pés gigantescos e desajeitados, e orelhas enormes com tufos de pelos alaranjados. Justo quando Iolaus e Autolycus conseguiram recuperar o equilíbrio, Ares os lançou aos trambolhões direto para dentro do rio.
Entrementes, Katherine desfrutava de sua vida como humana, e mal podia esperara para tentar coisas novas, embora ficasse com uma estranha aparência quando arrancava todas as suas roupas para rolar na lama e derramava a comida da tigela. Mas quando ela correu para Sadie, um cavalo que ela conhecia, e para um grupo de outros “primos” suínos que não podia reconhecê-la, Katherine pensava em sua antiga vida. Hércules lembrou-a do quanto ela amava sua família e como ela terá que deixa-los se permanecer humana.
Novamente cobertos de lama, Iolaus e Autolycus foram apanhados pela turba, que os tomara pelo povo de duas cabeças e pés grandes das antigas lendas, que vivia na floresta. Eles foram salvos da morte certa por Barnabus, que os comprou para exibi-los em um grande circo.
Felizmente, Hércules estava no circo e reconheceu seus dois amigos. Ele quebrou as correntes de Hephaestus, e Iolaus e Autolycus, agora de volta à aparência normal, seguiram alegremente caminhos separados.
Porém, quando Autolycus estava deixando o povoado, foi atacado. Depois de bem machucado, ele correu para avisar Iolaus sobre a nova ameaça: Discórdia agora era uma galinha gigante!
Com Discórdia no meio daquela balbúrdia, Iolaus bolou um plano, e conseguiu que ela engolisse uma boa dose daquelas frutinhas soníferas. O corpanzil emplumado de Discórdia já ia desabar sobre Autolycus, mas, no último momento, ela se transformou numa ave de tamanho normal e se acalmou, cochilando.
Ares apareceu subitamente, rindo, para recolher sua galinha, comentando que não se divertia tanto há muito tempo, e Iolaus e Autolycus se despediram como amigos.
Hércules devolveu Katherine à sua fazenda e eles tiveram uma carinhosa despedida antes que Afrodite a transformasse novamente numa porquinha.
Feliz e aliviado, Hércules partiu, sabendo que Katherine estaria feliz junto da sua verdadeira família.
